The First “International Forum on Technological Innovation and IP Protection” Held in Shenzhen

The First “International Forum on Technological Innovation and IP Protection” held in Shenzhen on Nov. 17,2018 for one day. In the morning forum, participants communicated about technology innovation and development status of IP protection.The afternoon was the exchange conference of domestic and foreign technology transfer and IP agencies. This forum received high attention from organizing committee of the 20th CHTF and was included as one of the major events in CHTF.


This forum was guided by Guangdong IP Protection Center and Shenzhen IP Office, hosted by Shenzhen University and Shenzhen Promotion Association for Enterprise Technology Innovation, and undertook by Technology Transfer Center of Shenzhen University as well as Johnson IP Agency (Shenzhen). It will be held in Shenzhen each year.

Wenqiu LIU, president of Shenzhen Promotion Association for Enterprise Technological Innovation also the partner of Johnson IP Agency (Shenzhen), referred that this forum aims to let more international friends and IP colleagues understand technology innovation and status of IP protection in China, especially in Shenzhen, besides, to establish a platform for continuous exchanges and cooperation in Shenzhen, China to benefit career developments of Chinese and foreign peers.

In the morning “International Forum on Technological Innovation and IP Protection”, Jiagui ZHOU, IP Protection Department of Shenzhen IP Office, introduced Chinese IP protection system and Shenzhen experience to attendees. Shenzhen University shared IP management of universities.

Exchange Conference of Domestic and Foreign Technology Transfer and IP Agencies

In the afternoon “ Exchange Conference of Domestic and Foreign Technology Transfer and IP Agencies”, Yongwen WANG, partner of Johnson IP Agency (Shenzhen) with about 20 years practical experience in IP industry, shared his Chinese experiences in patent invalidation and litigation.

As an Australian agency with 158 years of history, Shelston IP Pty Ltd highly concern about Chinese IP development. Mr.Peter Treloar, special counselor of Shelston IP, recommended IP protection systems in Australia and New Zealand, and actions needed to be taken before selling products in Australia market to attendees.


Jian SUN, vice president of TRY International IP Service Co., Ltd who’s proficient in Chinese, Japanese and English, devotes to providing consulting services for Chinese enterprises who would like to file patents in Japan. He made attendees understand Japanese utility model afresh, and clarified some misconception for IP policy and status in Japan, such as difficulty in patent allowance, simpleness in design allowance, low value of design ect.


Dr. Mandy, founder and managing partner of Bayes PLLC whose business scope includes patent application, PTAB procedure and litigation in America, said she’s glad to communicate and share with enterprises or colleagues about IP issues, for example she once discussed with Chinese enterprises about patent portfolio and drafting under the dark clouds of China-US trade.


The Russian agency- MIKHAILYUK, SOROKOLAT &PARTNERS(MSP) is one of the first batch agencies engaged in IP industry in the former Soviet Union. Yajie JIANG, representative in China of MSP, introduced IP systems in the five central Asian countries to participants, including how to file application, how to react when occurring trademark infringement, invalidation, rejection ect.



Yanli XU, vice director of Technology Transfer Center of Shenzhen University, Dr. Hongshen PANG, vice research librarian of IP Information Service Center of Shenzhen University and Weizhong LV, dean of Longgang Innovation Institute of Shenzhen University were also invited to this forum. Representative of Chinese and Foreign Technology Transfer Agencies, including executive vice president of Shenzhen CTU Hi Tech Co.Ltd. Weiping TIAN and DU Yangzhou, vice manager of METIS IP, mainly discussed issues about Chinese and foreign technology transfer and international patent portfolio.
